Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

- Student will be able to explain the nature of protection of metals against corrosion. - Student will be able to characterize the microstructure and properties of metallic coatings - Student will understand the final adjustments of rolled products and forgings.

Summary

The subject deals with the surface treatment of formed products. Provides an overview of the theory and application technology of metallic and non-metallic coatings and layers.

Subject syllabus:

1. Corrosion of metallic materials - characterization, description and drawings of different types of corrosion 2. Protection of metal surfaces against corrosion - the basic classification. 3. Surface preparation prior to coating (pickling, degreasing, polishing). 4. Theory of hot-dip galvanizing - diagram Fe-Zn protective coating microstructure, low and high temperature galvanizing. 5. Technology of galvanizing - discontinuous and continuous processing lines. 6. Theory and technology of hot-dip tinning. 7. Theory and technology of aluminum and aluminum based alloys plating. 8. Electroplating. 9. Chemical metal coating. 10. Finish anodic oxidation – anodizing. 11. Non-metallic coatings and layers. 12. Surface treatment of metals to improve wear resistance. 13. Internal stresses in rolled products and drawn wire – straightening. 14. Testing of material - list of special tests of mechanical properties and quality of the coating.
