Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Student can apply his theoretical knowledge for proposals of the rolling technologies optimization (including the rolls’ grooving) with the aim to reach the asked shape, dimensions and properties of the rolled products. He will be able to use his practical knowledge for making the operational rolling conditions more effective. Student will be informed in final treatment of the rolled products.

Summary
The objective of the subject is to give the student the wide theoretical knowledge about various technologies of rolling and grooving and inform him in details about rolling mills of several types. Subject provides the basic overview of the theory and technology of heat treatment and metallic coatings of the rolled products.

Subject syllabus:
Assortment of rolled products, principal technologies and types of rolling (longitudinal, cross and skew rolling).
Types of rolling stands and mills, dispositions and technological equipment of rolling mills.
Theoretical aspects of longitudinal rolling.
Production of blanks and sequence of continuous casting and rolling (processing of thin continuously cast products in one heat).
Hot- and cold rolled flat products (plates, strips).
Rolling of long products (section steels, rails, wire).
Methods of the seamless tubes production (principles of piercing, elongation methods).
Groove – types, parts, geometry, dimension characteristics, neutral axis.
Material flow and heterogeneous deformation in the grooves, contact area, spreading in several grooves, working life.
General principles of the sequences of passes, roll pass design of the simple bars.
Fundaments of roll pass design of selected section types.
Roll bending and shaping of flat products at production of the cold-formed profiles and welded tubes.
Theory and technology of heat treatment of the rolled products.
Theory and technology of the steel’s metal plating.
