Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student will become familiar with principles of metallurgical and following technologies, he will be able to describe raw materials and processes of their preparation, fundamentals of physical and chemical processes of single technologies, production facilities, final products assortment, its properties and usage.

Summary

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the principles of production technologies in the field of metallurgical primary production, foundry, forming processes and advanced secondary metalworking. Detailed focus is aimed at individual stages of ferrous and non-ferrous metals production, from the production of input semi-finished products to the stage of precision machining using modern technologies.

Subject syllabus:

1. Classification of production processes and industrial technologies. 2. Technology of mineral processing (coal, ore) - processing procedure, mechanical and thermal process technology, criteria for the evaluation of processed raw materials. 3. Iron production in blast furnace - input raw materials, production technology, chemical and physical processes, influence of harmful elements in iron production, logistics of raw metal handling. 4. Secondary metallurgy - technological process of production, modification of chemical composition of metal, vacuum metallurgy. 5. Steel production in oxygen converters - charge, reaction process, slag significance, technological processes and processes. 6. Steel production in electric furnaces - electric arc, furnaces, melting, oxidation and reduction reactions, production of alloyed steels. 7. Continuous casting of steel. 8. Manufacture of non-ferrous metals - raw materials, ores, pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, electrometallurgy. 9. Materials forming - basic methods of materials forming, formability of metals, heating of metals for forming, technology of molded products production. 10. Rolling of billets, shaped and rod steel, rolling of flat rolled and wire, tube production, forming of non-ferrous metals. 11. Casting technology, production of molds and cores, casting of metals, foundry processes, processing of castings. 12. Engineering technologies - material cutting, metal machining, joining, assembly, advanced precision machining technology. 13. Concept of Lean manufacturing and World class Manufacturing in Metal Processing Processes. 14. Evaluation of the quality and performance of production processes in metal processing and production.
