1 Student will be able to characterize the basic methods of chemical analysis of ceramic and raw materials. 2 Student will be able to characterize and apply the basic methods of phase analysis of ceramic and raw materials. 3 Student will be able to choose a strategy and methods of chemical and phase analysis of ceramic and raw materials.

Summary

Relationship among chemical and phase composition and properties of ceramic materials. The methods of chemical analysis of ceramic materials. Possibility of phase composition identification of ceramic materials.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures: 1 Gravimetric procedure in chemical analysis, principle. 2 Volumetric analysis - Neutralization, Chelatometry. The indicators in volumetric analysis, examples. 3 Principle of spectral separation methods and chemical analysis. Absorption spectral analysis, Lambert - Beer law. Colorimetry, photometry, spectrophotometry. 4 Emission spectral analysis. X-ray fluorescence analysis. 5 Overview of methods of phase analysis. 6 DTA, TG, dilatometry and thermo-mechanical analysis. Simultaneous thermal analysis applications. 7 Principle of DSC calorimetry. 8 Calvets - Tian's equation in calorimetry applications. The basic methodology for calorimetric measurements. 9 X-ray diffraction, Bragg equation, applications. X-ray, formation, monochromatization, utilization. 10 X-ray diffraction phase analysis - identification one substance. X-ray procedure phase analysis of mixtures of minerals. 11 X-ray microanalysis, the principle use 12 Principles and applications of the TEM imaging. 13 Principles, and applications of SEM imaging (REM). Seminars: 1 Preparation of solutions for chemical analysis. Expressing the composition of standard solutions, determine the titre. Decomposition of samples for chemical analysis, storage solution. 2 Determination of SiO2 + non decomposable share R2O3 determination, determination of loss on drying and annealing. 3 Volumetric determination of CaO and MgO. 4 Photometric determination of Fe2O3. 5 DTA - evaluation of measurement applications. TG - analysis of data usage. 6 X-ray diffraction phase analysis..
