- knowledge of the basic characteristics of ceramic materials - understanding the differences between ceramic materials and metals - application of knowledge about the properties of ceramic materials during their use in practical terms

Summary

Density, bulk density, water absorption, porosity. Mechanical properties of ceramic materials. Compression strength, strength in tension, flexural strength, Youngs modulus. Microhardness. Non-destructive testing methods and detection of defects. Heat properties of ceramics. Part of the course is an excursion into a ceramic laboratory.

Lectures: Basic parameters of the ceramics Differences between the amorphous and crystalline faze Porosity, water absorption, green density, density Mechanical properties Thermal properties Non-destructive testing methods for ceramic materials Exercises Preparation of dense ceramics Preparation of porous ceramics Determination and calculation of green density Determination and calculation of water absorption and porosity Computer simulation of grain composition of raw materials Furnaces in the metallurgical industry Determination of compressive strength Determination of bending strength Characteristics of materials during heat treatment
