Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
- to show the characteristics of ideal and real liquids, gas; and par
- to solve status equation, a mixture of gas, Avogadro's law
- to characterize the basic laws of ideal gas
- to solve simple examples of thermal cycles, and be familiar with the examples of real cycles
- to understand the laws in the field of steam and the moist air

Summary
The first law of thermodynamics, heat, work, status variables, of ideal gases. Mixtures of gases. Enthalpy and technical work. Basic processes in the p-v diagram. Entropy. The second law of thermodynamics, reversible and irreversible processes. Carnot cycle. Basic processes in T-s diagram. Real gases and vapours. Boiling and condensation. Application of water vapour diagrams in thermal calculations. Moist air, Mollier's diagram.Basic calculations of processes with moist air. Thermodynamics of gases flowing. Mach number. Hugonit's equation and design of nozzle shape for various technical applications. Thermal cycles of engines (Otto, Diesel). Principle of turbines and rocket engine. Constant-pressure gas turbines. Steam thermal cycles, cooling technique, heat pumps.
