Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course is the overview of the basic properties of ceramic materials: - Illustrated the essential characteristics of ceramic materials - Attention is paid to mechanical and thermal properties of ceramic materials - The emphasis is put on the diference properties of metal and nonmetal materials

Summary

Density, bulk density, water absorption, porosity. Mechanical properties of ceramic materials. Compression strength, strength in tension, flexural strength, Youngs modulus. Microhardness. Non-destructive testing methods and detection of defects. Heat properties of ceramics. Part of the course is an excursion into a ceramic laboratory.
