Summary
The course defines refractory materials. The attention is paid to the thermal properties of these materials and methods of their preparation and their application. The other matter of course is an evaluation of possibilities of modification of their parameters.

Subject syllabus:
Thermal and thermomechanical properties of ceramic materials.
Classification of refractory materials. The principles of manufacturing process. Shaped materials – ganister, alumina-silicate materials and basic refractory materials. High temperature oxide and non-oxide ceramic materials.
Fused and casted materials.
Distinguishing of manufacturing processes and parameters for dense and light-weight materials.
Unshaped refractory materials (gunning mixes, ramming mixes and vibrating mixes). Thermal insulating ceramics.
Principles of use of these materials. Corrosive effect of melts and gasses on ceramic materials.
Measures to increase the service life of refractory ceramic materials in the operating conditions.
