### Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student will be able: - to use laws of ideal gases for solving problems, - to solve tasks on gas mixtures, - to characterize the properties of real gases, - to solve thermal cycles, - to solve flowing through nozzles, - to know the basics of humid air theory, - to use water steam tables and diagrams.

### Summary

The subject deals with basic laws of thermodynamics, state quantities of ideal gases. Explains quantities heat, work, technical work. Further topics are equation of states, mixtures of gases, basic changes in the states of ideal gases, entropy, thermodynamic diagrams, reversible and irreversible changes, Carnot's cycle, open systems, real gases and vapors, basic calculations of humid air processes, thermodynamics of gas flow, cycles of thermal motors and turbines, compression, reversed cycles, heat pumps, steam thermal circuits.

### Subject syllabus:

• The first law of thermodynamics, heat, work, state quantities of ideal gases. • Mixtures of gases. • Enthalpy, technical work. Basic changes in the p-v diagram. • Entropy. The second law of thermodynamics, reversible and irreversible processes. • Carnot's cycle. • Basic changes in the T-s diagram. • Real gases and vapors. Evaporation and condensation. Water vapor diagrams. • Humid air, Mollier diagram. Basic calculations of humid air processes. • Thermodynamics of gas flow. • Heat circulations of thermal motors, gas turbines, rocket motor. • Compressors. • Reversed cycle, heat pumps, cooling systems. • Steam thermal circuits.
