- Shows a summary of the theoretical aspects and related manufacturing processes preparation of the main types of construction binders - Shows to testing procedures the properties of binders and composites - Focus on the use of secondary raw materials

Summary

Characteristic and classification of inorganic binders. Air-hardening binders (gypsum binder, magnesium binder, air-setting lime). Hydraulic binders. Portland cement - raw materials, composing of raw materials mixtures, firing, types of kilns, cooling. Mineralogical composition of clinker. Grinding, addition of latent hydraulic agents, cements properties. Hydration, products properties. Alumina cement - raw materials, manufacturing, properties. Concrete, castables. Cement-free and technical binders.

Subject syllabus:

1. Characterization and classification of inorganic binders. 2. Requirements on raw materials for production of inorganic binders, the use of secondary materials. 3. Air binders: gypsum binder, lime binder, magnesium binder. 4. Hydraulic binder - cement: classification, the main types. 5. Portland cement - the raw material, calculation of the raw material mixture composition, criteria and its selection. 6. The chemical and physical processes in the manufacture of cement clinker, types of kiln systems, clinker cooling. 7. The mineralogical composition of clinker - potential and actual. 8. Latent hydraulic agents. 9. Grinding of clinker - cements, their testing, performance requirements according to standards. 10. Hydration of Portland cement, influencing of course and properties of hydration products. 11. Alumina cement - raw materials, production, properties. 12. Application of binders: mortar, plaster mixes, lightweight concrete, aerated concrete. 13. Dense concrete - components of the mixture, processing, modifying of properties, concrete prefabrication. 14. Refractory castables - classification, types, raw materials, properties.
