- student will be able to choose the strategy and methods of chemical and phase analysis of ceramics raw materials and products - student will be able to evaluate suitability of application ceramics materials in according with theirs chemical and phase composition

Summary

The subject is focused to solving relations between chemical and phase composition of materials and theirs properties. There are presented fundamental methods of chemical and phase analysis of ceramics raw materials and products. The significant attention is paid to methods of determination phase composition of ceramics systems. Content of subject is x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, methods of thermal analysis, calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance.

Subject syllabus:

1. Gravimetric procedure in chemical analysis, principle. 2. Volumetric analysis - Neutralization, Chelatometry. The indicators in volumetric analysis, examples. 3. Principle of spectral separation methods and chemical analysis. Absorption spectral analysis, Lambert - Beer law. Colorimetry, photometry, spectrophotometry. 4. Emission spectral analysis. X-ray fluorescence analysis. 5. Overview of methods of phase analysis. 6. DTA, TG, dilatometry and thermo-mechanical analysis. Simultaneous thermal analysis applications. 7. Principle of DSC calorimetry. 8. Tian Calvets equation in calorimetry, applications. The basic methods for calorimetric measurements. 9. X-ray diffraction, Bragg equation, applications. X-ray, formation, monochromatization, utilization. 10. X-ray diffraction phase analysis - identification one substance. X-ray procedure phase analysis of mixtures of minerals. 11. X-ray microanalysis, the principle use. 12. Electron microscopy. Principles and applications of the TEM imaging. Principles and applications of SEM imaging (REM). 13. Infrared spectroscopy, principles and utilization in ceramic materials branch 14. Solid state MAS NMR spectroscopy. Spectrums evaluation of nuclide 29Si and 27Al for identification of products of hydration reactions.
