Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The student will be able to: - characterize the technology of heating materials, - calculate the basic parameters of heating materials in industrial aggregates, - formulate the basic thermal and technical processes during heating of materials, - use their knowledge to decide on the method of heating materials, - apply their theoretical knowledge to technology proposals heating materials, - based on their knowledge, choose the optimal procedure for heating materials.

Summary
The subject is focused on broader theoretical and practical knowledge of the process of heating and cooling materials, technology of heating and heat treatment of materials from the perspective of thermal processes, thermal-technical conditions during heating in industrial aggregates.

Subject syllabus:
1. Properties of metals, alloys, refractory materials depending on temperature - thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, density, linear and volumetric thermal expansion, coefficient of thermal inertia.
2. Basic concepts - radiation of flue gases in a confined space, temperature of the structure of the furnace equipment, area of external and internal heat transfer, differentiation of the charge into thin and thick bodies from the point of view of their heating.
3. External heat transfer - influence of relative position of gray bodies, balance of heat flows on the surface of the heated material, balance of heat flows on the surface of the furnace masonry, convective transfer of heat to the heated material, resulting equation of external heat transfer,
4. Graphically - analytical solution of external heat transfer, approximate calculation of external heat transfer, heating or cooling in a liquid environment, cooling of material in air.
5. Theoretical calculation of heating of thin bodies - heating of thin bodies in space with constant and variable temperature.
6. Theoretical calculation of heating of thick bodies - Fourier's differential equation of heat conduction, conditions of unambiguity when solving the equation of heat conduction.
7. Technological principles of heating - final heating temperature, thermal stresses during heating and cooling, storage of material in the furnace space, permissible non-uniformity of heating and degree of heating, heating modes and their choice.
8. Oxidation and decarburization of steel during heating - theoretical foundations of steel oxidation, influence of technological factors and environment on metal oxidation.
9. Calculation of steel heating in basic types of industrial furnaces.
