Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

-collects chosen heat treatment types; -clarify austenite phase transformation facts including the ATF, IDF, AF and GB; -express hydrogen embrittlement, heat and fire-resistant and corrosion-proof steel type base; -relate materials for automotive industry; -quote steels with special physical and magnetic properties; -discusse Ni, Cu, Al, Mg, Ti etc. alloys in basic level.

Summary

Metallic system classification, steels alloying principles, steel types choice,physical principle of their composition design, formed, cast steels, influence of unconventional HT on steel properties, low alloy steels, surface treated steels, corrosion principles,corrosion resistant and creep steels, high strength steels, steels with special physical properties, electro and tool-type steels, cast iron, conditions of graphite formation ductile iron, Cu and Ni alloys, light metals and their alloys, heavy melted metals and their alloys.

Subject syllabus:

Lectures - Overview of the chosen heat treatment (HT) types, four stages of martensite tempering, secondary hardness, planar faults, deformation bands. Physical-metallurgy characteristics of austenite transformation products (ATF. IDF, WF, B, AF, M). Dividing of metallic systems, carbon steels. - Alloyed elements role in steels and the basic alloyed steel types. Influence of harmful impurities in steels. Structural aspects of unconventional steels HT (Granular bainite, isothermal annealling of bainite steels etc.). - Structural principles of optimised choose of rolled steels including their mechanical properties evaluation. - Hydrogen resistance against corrosion damage (hydrogen embrittlement, the SSC, HIC, SOHIC). Physical principles of addition influence in steels. Rolled carbon steels. - Steels for engineering components with different mechanical characteristics and materials for automotive industry (DP, TRIP, TWIP, TRIPLEX etc.). - Overview about steel types as martensite dispersed steels, spring materials, steels for surface treatment, abrasive resistant steels and materials for low temperatures. - Overview of anticorrosion steel types, heat resistant and heatproof steels and conditions for their functional application. - Chosen steel types with specific physical properties. - Tool and high-speed steels classification. Tool steels for work under cold and warm conditions. - Basic types of cast steels. Cast-iron classification, conditions for graphite formation in cast-irons. Malleable iron and ductile cast-iron. - Nickel, Cu and Al alloys classification. - Basic information about Ti, Mg, Zr etc. alloys. - Metals with high temperature melting point and their alloys. Principles of optimised steels and alloys choose. Seminars - Introduction seminar. - Phase and structural steels and iron-steels composition. Structural phases characteristics. - Quantitative evaluation by use of basic stereological methods. Cleanness, grain size, percentage part of phases and interlaminated pearlite distance evaluation. - Harmful elements influence, quantitative evaluation, micro-fractographic characteristics. - Evaluation of various fracture surface types using real samples. - Microstructure and properties of chosen constructional steels of 11 till 16 grade by use of the IRA and ARA diagrams. - Bainite and martensite microstructure. - Micro-alloyed and low alloyed steels, unconventional treated steels. - Test - High alloyed special steels. Microstructure and properties determination of individual types of anticorrosion steels ( martensite, austenite, ferrite and duplex). - Manganese, heat resistant and heatproof steels. - Structural stability of strengthened phases. Tool steels and materials resistant against abrasion. - Properties of chosen alloy types of non-ferrous metals (Cu, Ni, Al, Ti, Mg). - Short test, seminar evaluation and credit.
