Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

- Outline the internal structure of structural materials on different scale ranges; - Describe the basic properties of structural materials; - Clarify relationships between internal structure and properties of structural materials; - Describe principal characteristics, advantages and drawbacks, of four groups of structural materials – metallic materials, polymers, ceramics and composites; - Compare advantages and disadvantages of each group of structural materials.

Summary

Materials in the human civilisation evolution; basic classification of materials; natural materials; metals and their alloys; ceramic materials; polymer materials; composites; examples of materials used in selected branches - medicine, sports, transport, building industry etc.

Subject syllabus:

Přednášky: 1. Úloha materiálů v civilizačním vývoji lidstva 2. Základní rozdělení materiálů – přírodní, technické – konstrukční, funkcionální – příklady. 3. Užitné vlastnosti materiálů –rozdělení, příklady z různých oborů. 4. Základní metody hodnocení materiálů – struktura, vlastnosti. 5. Kovy a jejich slitiny – rozdělení, hlavní vlastnosti, příklady použití. 6. Keramické materiály – rozdělení, hlavní vlastnosti, příklady použití. 7. Polymery a kompozitní materiály - rozdělení, hlavní vlastnosti, příklady použití. 8. Příklady použití materiálů v medicíně. 9. Příklady použití materiálů ve sportu.
