Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with those areas of metallurgy, which are based directly on the physical principles, which are significantly applied and which exhibit important metallurgical processes and also fundamentally affect the structure and properties of metallic materials.

Předmět je orientován na oblast difúzních dějů v pevném stavu; na mechanismy zpevnění uplatňující se v kovových materiálech; dále na segregační děje, zejména na procesy mikrosegregace a konečně na proces rekrystalizace kovových materiálů a související děje.

Subject syllabus:

Diffusion in the solid state - thermodynamics of diffusion processes, basic mechanisms, substitutional, interstitial diffusion; Fick's laws of diffusion - derivation, utilization; autodiffusion, diffusion in dilute solid solutions, interdiffusion - Kirkendall effect, Darken’s equation; channels of increased diffusivity; diffusion in non-isomorphic systems, etc. Strengthening mechanisms in metallic materials - basic mechanisms - grain boundary strengthening, plastic deformation strengthening, precipitation strengthening, solid solution strengthening, role of strengthening reinforcement rolls in material design; advantages, disadvantages of individual strengthening mechanisms, etc. Segregation processes in metallic materials - segregation phenomena, macroscopic segregation, dendritic segregation, micro-segregation at the grain boundaries, or micro-segregation in other interfaces; theoretical solutions, segregation in multiphase systems - competitive segregation, co-segregation, consequences of segregation processes. Recrystallization in metallic materials and related processes - thermodynamics of recrystallization; basic stages of recrystallization processes, influence of decisive parameters on the process of recrystallization; preferred orientation, using of recrystallization processes.
