Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

1) Student will be able to define special material characteristics of the main degradation processes. 2) Student will be able to describe the determination of special material characteristics according to relevant standards DIN EN respectively CSN EN ISO. 3) Student will be able to describe a new method of testing material properties. 4) Students will be able to decide in which cases it is necessary to determine special mechanical characteristics of the material.

Summary

The course deals with the deepening study of basic mechanical properties of special mechanical properties. The practical examples presented here the reasons which led to the introduction of specific test methods related to fatigue, corrosion fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, fracture behaviour of steels and creep resistance of steels to environments containing hydrogen sulfide. In addition, special methods are presented in the field of non-destructive testing for the detection of internal defects in the material volume.

Subject syllabus:

1) Test methods for evaluating the material properties and their distribution. Special test methods. 2) Fundamentals of fracture mechanics. 3) Test methods for determining the fatigue characteristics of materials (curve εat life – Nf , cyclic curve σa – εapl ) . Test methods based on linear fracture mechanics . 4) Test methods for evaluating resistance to sudden unstable fracture ( DWT, DWTT ) . Test procedures based not fracture mechanics ( KIC, JIC , δc , JR curve reference temperature T0 , Master curve). 5) The test procedures for determining the creep characteristics of the material ( the rate of secondary creep , creep limit RT ( σTp ) , creep rupture strength RmT ( σTPt ) . 6) Test methods for evaluating resistance to HIC (Hydrogen Induced Cracking ) and SSC ( Sulfide Stress Cracking ) under hydrogen sulphide 7) Test methods for evaluating corrosion stress. Evaluation of crack initiation stage. Evaluation stage of stable crack growth. 8) Test method for the determination of strength, fracture and creep characteristics of the results of penetration test. 9) The test methods in the field of non-destructive testing. Test methods for detecting defects located on the surface or near the surface of the blank. Test methods for detecting internal defects in the material volume.
