Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will learn about information sources which can they use for preparation of the theoretical part of their Diploma Thesis. Students will know how to cite applied literature sources. Students will deepen their knowledge and skills at preparation of professional reports on the given topic under the auspices of tutors of their thesis.

Summary

The course is maily focused on preparation of theoretical part of Diploma Thesis. Students will learn about basic requirements on Diploma Thesis and with the citation of references. Students will be informed about the most important sources of information, either in the printed or electronic form, which are related to the professional field dealing with the topic of their Diploma Thesis. In the next part of the course students will prepare the theoretical part of the thesis under the auspieces of their tutors.

Compulsory literature:

ISO 690: 2011 Information and Documentation - Rules for Bibliographic Citation of Information Sources. BUI, Y. N. How to write a master's thesis. 2nd ed. Los Angeles: SAGE, c2014. ISBN 978-1-4522-0351-5. Further mandantory literature will be specified by tutors of Diploma Thesis depending on the topic of the thesis.

Additional study materials

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester

The student must to submit a document of at least 20 pages for the diploma thesis to the teacher and supervisor of the diploma thesis. The student presents the topics of the diploma thesis to other students and teachers. The credits will be awarded based on character and level of the diploma thesis and its evaluation by the teacher and the supervisor of the diploma thesis. Credit is awarded by the lecturer in cooperation with the supervisor.

Subject syllabus:

1. Basic sources of information, which can students use for preparation of the theoretical part of their thesis. 2. Basic rules for citation of applied literature sources in agreement with the standard ISO 690. 3. Independent preparation of the theoretical part of the Diploma Thesis by students. 4. Modification of the content of the theoretical part of the thesis based on discussions with the tutor of the Diploma Thesis.
