Students will learn the following: -understand the relationship between structure and properties of selected materials, enabling their special use. -know selected technical materials from the perspective of their most effective use -select the given material on the basis of knowledge of structure and properties -optimise the structure in order to enhance the service properties

Summary

Materials with nano-crystalline structure. Basic physical-chemical and structural properties. Technique of preparation of nano-crystalline materials. Mechanical properties of nano-crystalline materials. Thermal stability of nano-crystalline structures. Perspectives for technical use. - Amorphous metals. Basic characteristics of rapid cooling. Technological variants of preparation of amorphous metals. Characteristics of amorphous metals, conditions of creation of amorphous conditions. Mechanical properties, magnetic properties, corrosion properties. Devitrification of amorphous metals. Perspectives of use. - Selected refractory alloys in the equipment for conversion of power. General character of nickel and cobalt alloys. History of development. Classification from the viewpoint of development of technologies. Chemical constitution of nickel and cobalt alloys. Influence of individual alloying elements. Strength properties, strengthening phases, TPC phases. Perspectives of use, current directions of development. - Materials for armouring of military vehicles. Overview of the current state of the art in the world. Basic principles of protection. Passive armouring, reactive armouring, active armouring. Armour protection of vehicles. Metallic armours, steel armours, armours made of aluminium and titanium based alloys. Non-metallic armours, aramid, polyethylene, glass fibres and laminates, ceramic armours. Transparent armours. - Laminates, character and requirements, production technology - polymeric matrix – unsaturated polyesters, vinyl-ester bitumens, epoxide bitumens. Properties, basic types.

- Materials with nano-crystalline structure. Fundamental physical-chemical and structural properties. Technique of preparation of nano-crystalline materials. Condensation from gaseous phase. Purity of nano-crystalline materials. Technique of mechanical alloying. Structures formed at mechanical alloying. - Mechanical properties of nano-crystalline materials. Thermal stability of nano-crystalline structures. Multi-phase nano-crystalline materials. Perspectives for technical use. - Amorphous metals. Influence of accelerating rate of cooling on the character of the formed structure. Basic characteristics of rapid cooling. Technological variants of preparation of amorphous metals. Joining of powder material into 3D components. - Characteristics of amorphous, conditions of formation of amorphous conditions. Thermo-dynamic and kinetic influences on homogenous nucleation of crystalline phases in the melt. Relations of temperatures TM and Tg. Reduced temperature of formation of amorphous structure Tgr. - Properties of amorphous metals. Mechanical properties, magnetic properties, corrosion properties. Devitrification of amorphous metals. Perspectives of use. - Selected refractory alloys in equipment for conversion of power. General characteristics of nickel and cobalt alloys. History of development.
