Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Provide students with comprehensive knowledge of relevant systems and processes where surface material has an important role to play. Students will gain the knowledge of both traditional and advanced technology of surface treatment in automotive industry, including coatings and layers applications. Explain to students how we can modify the surface of the material to improve its properties and optimization applications.

Summary
Lectures include surface treatment and coatings applied in the automotive industry. They include the basic physical, mechanical and chemical properties of layers and coatings, explain their concepts, advantages and disadvantages, the quality assessment and the durability of these coatings. In the subject are presented the main pretreatments and technologies of surface treatment: electrolytic (galvanic) deposition, application of coating systems (including cataphoresis) for corrosion protection. Layer technology with increased wear resistance and other degradation processes. Testing methods for determination of surface and coating properties, mainly the surface composition and structure, roughness, the adhesion and thickness of the coatings.
