Student will be able to: - classify nonferrous metals - apply basic theoretical knowledge of chemistry to the nonferrous metals processing - define basic parameters of pyro-, hydro- and electrometallurgy processes - explain selected technologies - evaluate optimum technological process for production of selected metals - formulate advantages and disadvantages of selected technologies - apply knowledge at solution of technical problems

Summary

Metals, their properties, technical classification, sources of raw materials for nonferrous metals, their processing and preparation of concentrates. Characteristics of pyro-, hydro- and electrometallurgical including biometallurgical processes for production of nonferrous metals. Technologies of light, heavy, noble, refractory, radioactive and rare earth metals. Production, properties and applications of nonferrous metal alloys. Possiblities of treatment of secondary raw materials with nonferrous metals content. Economic and environmental aspects of processing and recycling processes. Advanced technologies of processing and refining of metals. Metals ecotoxicology and environment impact of nonferrous technologies.

Subject syllabus:

1. Kovy, jejich technické rozdělení a výroba. Čistoty a ceny vyráběných kovů 2.-3.Surovinové zdroje neželezných kovů, jejich úprava. 4.-5. Pyrometalurgické procesy. 6. Hydrometalurgické procesy. 7. Elektrometalurgické procesy. 8. Metody rafinace kovů. 9. Zpracování primárních surovina a odpadů vybraných kovů, jejich vlastnosti a použití, ekotoxikologie kovů. 10. Těžké neželezné kovy: Cu, Ni, Zn, Pb. 11. Lehké kovy: Al, Mg. 12. Ušlechtilé kovy: Au, Ag, Pt. 13. Těžkotavitelné kovy: W, Mo, Ti. 14. Rozptýlené kovy a lanthanidy.
