Teaching methods

Summary

Characteristics of noble metals, gold, silver and metals of platinum group. Overview of methods of production of these metals as by-products at production of copper, lead and nickel. Independent procedures for processing of noble metals raw materials, amalgamation, cyanide leaching, new procedures for processing, refining of noble metals. High-melting metals, characteristic features, impact on technology of production, refining and processing of W, Mo, V, Ta, Nb, Ti, Zr and Hf. Metals of rare occurrence and lanthanoids, properties, principles of production and their application in practice. Naturally radioactive metals (U, Th) – characteristics. Properties, occurrence, methods of processing, utilisation in nuclear power industry.

Subject syllabus:

Charakteristika ušlechtilých kovů, zlato, stříbro a kovy platinové skupiny. Přehled způsobů výroby těchto kovů jako vedlejšího produktu při výrobě mědi, olova a niklu. Samostatné postupy na zpracování surovin ušlechtilých kovů, amalgamace, kyanidové loužení, nové postupy zpracování, rafinace ušlechtilých kovů. Vysokotavitelné kovy, charakteristické rysy, vliv na technologii výroby, rafinace a zpracování W, Mo, V, Ta, Nb, Ti, Zr a Hf. Kovy s ojedinělým výskytem a lanthanoidy, vlastnosti, principy výroby a jejich aplikace v praxi. Přirozeně radioaktivní kovy (U, Th) – charakteristika. Vlastnosti, výskyt, způsoby zpracování, použití v oblasti jaderné energetiky.
