Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Student will gain the following abilities:
- describe basic raw material sources of nonferrous metals, primary and secondary sources
- characterise raw material base of Czech Republic and describe individual companies
- define ores for nonferrous metals, their metal content and possibilities of enrichment
- define secondary sources of raw materials containing nonferrous metals
- classify waste of nonferrous metals from the viewpoint of their production
- describe and compare dressing of primary and secondary raw material sources for nonferrous metals
- explain and compare processes of crushing and milling or primary and secondary raw materials
- characterise sorting procedures for primary raw materials
- describe and subsequently compare separation processes, static and dynamicgravitation,
- describe and differentiate magnetic and electrical separation processes
- characterise flotation, interpret Young’s equation
- define flotation concentrates, describe technology of flotation process
- present auxiliary dressing procedures, interpret procedures of filtration and thickening
- describe drying processes and explain their significance for dressing processes
- characterise specific method of treatment of selected types of waste from nonferrous metals
- compare specific methods of treatment of waste with treatment of primary sources
- explore economic data of pure nonferrous metals and waste from nonferrous metals

Summary
Raw-material sources of non-ferrous metals, primary and secondary sources; ores with heavy, light, noble, refractory and radioactive metals content; the raw-material basis in the Czech Republic; economical and ecological aspects of mining and primary raw-materials treatment; heavy metals in the environment, the limit concentration in waters, soils, air, heavy metals in metallurgical operations; secondary raw-materials with non-ferrous metals; by-products from nonferrous metallurgy, possibilities of their treatment; treatment of primary and secondary non-ferrous metals sources, grinding, milling, separating processes; gravitational and magnetical separating; flotation, the flotation process theory; preliminary pyro- and hydrometallurgical processes; lumpiness modification, using of the cryogenic method; recycling of selected metalbearing wastes, temporary technologies, situation in the Czech Republic.

• Raw-material sources of non-ferrous metal, primary and secondary sources
• Ores of non-ferrous metals, metal contents and enrichment possibilities
• Raw material base of the Czech Republic
• Economical and ecological aspects of production and treatment of primary raw material
• Secondary raw material resources with content of non-ferrous metals
• Intermediate products from non-ferrous metals fabrication, slags, fly-ashes, sludges and wastes with content of metals, possibilities of their treatment
• Adjustment of primary non-ferrous metals. Crushing, milling, sorting.
• Adjustment of secondary non-ferrous metals. Sorting, crushing, milling, pressing, briquetting.
• Separating processes, static and dynamic gravity
• Separating processes, magnetic and electric
