Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Student will be able to:
- define basic properties of heavy metals (Cu, Ni, Pb,..)
- describe basic methods for production of individual metals
- make an overview of principal technology for production of heavy metals and their alloys
- classify alloys of copper, nickel, lead, zinc and other heavy metals
- describe basic characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of materials based on heavy metals
- apply the acquired theoretical knowledge at theoretical and laboratory exercises
- analyse and compare possibilities of application of materials based on heavy metals in industry.

Summary
The group of heavy nonferrous metals and their alloys; their properties; raw-
material resources and their treatment; production,processing and technical
applying of metals; pyro-, hydro-, bio- and electrometallurgical methods and
their combinations in production of metals;economical and ecological aspects in
nonferrous metallurgy.

Subject syllabus:
· Group of general non-ferrous metals (Cu, Ni, Co, Mn, Zn, Cd, Hg, Sn, Pb, Bi, Sb), their properties, sources of raw materials, deposits, production, processing, technical use.
· Production and processing of heavy metals in Czech Republic.
· Technological processes of production of heavy metals – pyro-metallurgical, hydro-metallurgical (including bio-metallurgical), electro-metallurgical.
· Economic and environmental aspects in metallurgy of heavy metals.
· Alloys of heavy non-ferrous metals, production, importance, properties, use in technology.
· Processing of wastes and intermediate products from processing of heavy non-ferrous metals, recycling of heavy non-ferrous metals and alloys.
