Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Student after passing the exam from this subject will gain the following abilities:
- Describe metals containing raw materials, their characteristics, classification, occurrence, storage and treatment.
- Enumerate basic physical and physical - chemical processing procedures. Hydro-metallurgical, pyro-metallurgical and combined methods for processing of material containing non-ferrous metals, refining of the obtained products.
- Accentuate environmental and economic aspects of use of metals containing raw materials, identify heavy metals in individual components of environment, limits of metals in water, soil and atmosphere in metallurgy, evaluate the existing situation and recycling technologies in Czech Republic.
- Describe recycling of selected waste materials from general metals an their alloys (aluminium, copper, nickel, lead, tin, zinc, germanium) or carbides of tungsten and cobalt.
- Characterise recycling of materials based on hazardous waste containing metals (dry galvanic cells, burnt-out light sources, discharge tubes, fluorescent lamps, EKO – VÚK Panenské Břežany, s.r.o.)
- Characterise recycling of materials based on cable and chip containing wastes (mechanical and chemical processing, cryogenic technique)

Summary
The subject teaches students about occurrence of metals containing waste materials and their necessary treatment prior to recycling. It deals also with environmental and economic aspects of recycling of metals containing materials, including eco-design. The main orientation is focused on processing of materials based on metals and their alloys that are the most widely used in industrial practice.
