Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student after passing the exam from this subject will gain the following abilities: - evaluate pyro-metallurgical, hydro-metallurgical and electro-metallurgical processes from the viewpoint of their impact on environment - recommend the directive of the Council 96/61/EC on integrated prevention and control of contamination, labelled as "IPPC". - select methods of processing according to an overview of the best available technologies (BAT) for metallurgy of lead and its alloys, copper and its alloys, aluminium and its alloys. - evaluate heavy metals in individual components of environment, limits of metals in water, soil and atmosphere in metallurgy. - recommend legislation concerning protection of environment, categorise waste in accordance with the catalogue and overview of selected data - design cleaner production, cleaner technology, prevention, evaluation of possibilities of cleaner production, explain relationship recycling – cleaner production - evaluate environmentally hazardous components of electrical waste and their handling. - determine use of metals and their compounds in electrical devices - evaluate influence of individual components of electrical waste on environment. Propose replacements of dangerous materials, eco-design. - compare toxicology of selected metals and their compounds (antimony, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, lead, mercury and selenium).
