Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student of postgraduate study will gain the following abilities: - explain relationships between structure and basic properties of materials; - apply basic principles of diffusion in solids on transformations in materials; - classify and explain various technologies; - evaluate influence of alternating technological parameters on the physical properties; - optimize technological parameters of processes; - classify and make an overview of basic properties of materials for structural, electromagnetic, superconducting, automotive, aerospace and other applications; - compare and select individual types of materials according to selected properties for specific applications; - evaluate influence of possible impurities on physical and service properties of metals and alloys; - apply the findings at solution of technical problems.

Teaching methods

Individual consultations
Project work

In this subject, the student gets to know physical properties determinative for application of semiconductor, conductor, magnetic, shape memory, intermetallic, single crystalline, amorphous, cellular, functionally gradient and other materials. Student should be able to orientate oneself in technological processes of materials preparation and modification of physical or physical and metallurgical properties. The knowledge of principles of electrical conductivity, magnetism, superconductivity, high structure ordering, shape memory effect, glass transition, gradient aspect, cellular structure preparing or single crystal state.
