Summary

Subject deals with materials used in orthodontics, orthopedics, traumatology, cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery and neurology, with basic features of biocompatibility and bioactivity and with the history of applications. Materials are classified as metallic, ceramic, polymer and composite. Basic features, mechanical and corrosion properties, surface treatment, anticorrosion protection, stress shielding problems on implant/living tissue will be discussed. Biodegradation and bioresorption will be treated in relation of recent findings.
