Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Acquired knowledge:
- fundamentals of the testing and closely related fields as standardization, metrology, certification and accreditation,
- assessment of testing laboratories and requirements for test methods
- orientation in the Czech system of state quality control as well as analogous principles applied in the European Union;
Acquired skills:
- mastery of the work with the technical standards for the test method and ability to create a test procedure according to standards
- estimation of measurement uncertainty of simple methods for measuring of physical and chemical variables,
- awareness of the activities in real testing laboratory

Summary
Subject objectives are to provide basic knowledge about the testing and related fields (metrology, accreditation, certification) and their joint significance in the process of removing technical barriers to trade within the functioning of the European system of products conformity assessment as well as the voluntary certification of products.

Way of continuous check of knowledge in the course of semester
Development of one program to calculate measurement uncertainties.
Preparation and presentation of a seminar paper.
Written credit test.

Other requirements
In order to receive credit, the student must have at least 80% participation in the exercises, develop a program and present a seminar paper, and write a credit test.

Subject syllabus:
1. Fundamentals of testing, definition, history and international co-operation in testing, Eurolab, Eurachem, testing in the Czech Republic, Eurolab CZ.
2. Testing and calibration laboratories, quality management in test laboratories, ISO/IEC 17025.
3. Evaluation of test methods, proficiency testing.
4. Basics of technical standardization, international co-operation and national standardization systems, harmonization of the technical standards.
5. Test methods and test procedures in the field of material engineering, test method’s validation and their role in the accreditation of testing laboratories, requirements of the standard ISO/IES 17025.
6. Standardized test methods, work with the technical standard, test procedure.
7. Metrology, international co-operation and national metrology systems, calibration as the basic principle of ensuring metrological traceability of test methods.
8. Errors and uncertainties, the importance of uncertainty in testing, practical examples of calculating uncertainties.
9. Accreditation and its importance for the testing, international co-operation and national accreditation systems, CIA o.p.s - Czech national accreditation body.
10. Certification and its importance for the testing, certification of management systems, personal certification in test laboratories.
11. Product certification, voluntary and mandatory product certification, certification marks.
12. Development of European conformity assessment system, “New approach”, the modular approach to conformity assessment, CE European mark of conformity.
13. The Czech system of state quality control and Act 22/1997 Coll. on technical requirements for products, harmonization of Czech and European legislation in conformity assessment, the “New legislative framework”.
14. Visit to the accredited test laboratory, practical demonstration of documentation established QMS and organization of basic activities in the test laboratory.
