Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

- student will be able to characterize each of the selected technologies in operational contexts, and related environmental risks - student will be able to formulate priorities and suggest possible measures of economic and environmental point of view - student will be able to use their knowledge regarding to the advisability of the proposed technology in selected industrial sectors - student will be able to apply their theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of individual productions in relation to the comparison of impacts on the environment, sustainable production and environmental protection

Teaching methods



The student will become acquainted with the characteristics of the selected technologies in the operational context together with their environmental risks and its components. Student will be able to formulate priorities and propose possible measures from an economic and environmental point of view.

Subject syllabus:

1. The impact of industry on the environment - historical development and present. Current requirements on industrial technologies . Environmental labeling and its importance for the future of the consumer. Basic economic and legislative instruments for environmental protection. IPPC for industrial production and its impact on practice. 2. Energy I. Energy policy of the state in relation to the components of the environment. Manufacture of electrical and thermal energy in the country. Categorization of boilers , turbines and heat exchangers. Transmission and distribution system. The European Energy Charter 3. Energy II. Requirements of the current legislation on the protection against pollutants. Flue gas cleaning technology - for example FGD wet limestone method. Reducing emissions of NOx and new methods of separation and stabilization of solid residues. Chemical treatment of water. Renewable sources of energy. 4. Mining - Mining Act. Surface and underground mining. Quarrying bearings and its specifics. Tailings economy and creating heaps of different types according to function. Ways to store tailings dumps and shapes. Sludge and contemporary ways of solving this problem. Mining and waste water, ways to dispose of surplus mining wastewater. 5. Landscape after mining activities. Restoration of areas devastated by mining activities. The reclamation process is disturbed landscape system. Reclamation methods according to the possible future use. 6. Coking plant. Manufacture of basic metallurgical fuel. Emissions of coking plants. The carcinogenic nature of these emissions. Technical measures for reducing leakage of pollutants to the air (exhaust gas, dust removal, new sealing technology ovens) . The emergence of a cleaning problem fenol-amonia water produced by the chemical part of the coking . Chemical processing of coke oven products and their use in other sectors. 7. Metallurgy II. Basic Metallurgy division technology in a closed metallurgical whole. Production of pig iron, steel , foundry technology and manufacturing technology of the final product and the metal blank. Modern production technology in primary metallurgy (direct production, processing tundish, continuous casting) and their contribution in terms of economic and offload all components of the environment . 8. Metallurgy II . The methods of reducing emissions and minimizing metallurgical enterprises. Dust extraction of selected technologies , cycling and wastewater treatment. Waste Management of metallurgical enterprise. Equipment for the processing of oily scale sludge of old ecological burdens steelmaker remediation, ensuring the old waste dumps and tailings utilization of metallurgical facilities for processing of different types of problem waste. 9. Technology and crude oil industry. Drilling and production of crude oil, the impact on the environment. Transportation of crude oil, methods and risks. Crude oil spills and raw materials for disposal. Basic technological principles according to the final processing of oil feedstocks. Emissions and waste water during oil processing . Production of fuels and lubricating products. 10. Transport and the environment. Transport infrastructure, development of transport systems friendly to the environment. Conventional and alternative fuels in road transport. The composition of the exhaust gas path through the reduction catalysts. EU standards. Spent lubricating oils and methods of processing. Components of the environment affected by transportation. Comparison of different modes of transport with regard to the burden of the individual components of the environment. 11. Chemical industry. Industrial production of aniline and its further processing. The basic technology of the production of amine. Technical measures to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds, methods of pollutants disposal for example through the catalytic DENOX units . Waste water generated from the partial plant production and purification methods for industrial wastewater treatment . Responsible business in chemici industry. Management of chemical substances and preparations - REACH . 12. Wood mining. Pulp and paper manufacturing. The basic technology. Comparison of in terms of the burden associated with pollution of air, water and waste. Paper production technologies with a focus on waste paper processing. Wastewater treatment in industrial wood processing and paper production. 13. Food industry. Basic technological principles of fermentation production. Biochemical enzymatic processes in the production of malt and beer. Technological procedures of classical productions. New procedures in the brewing industry - continuous cooking and fermentation. Specifics of wastewater from the production of malt and beer. Procedures for a two stage cleaning. Power Brewery and impacts and ways to minimize emissions to the environment. 14. Best available techniques (BAT - Best Available Techniques). BREF, a technical working group. Relevance to current industrial practice.
