Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Graduate of the subject is able to define key means of scientific communication inclluding publishing, correspondence, conference presentations and popularization of science. Student is familiar with literature sources required for the above mentioned means of communication, how to find and proces them. With respect to the publishing proces student is able to distinguish fundamental types of papers, their structure a principals of creating them, involving approaches how to use references correctly. Furthemore, student can outline basic aspects of bachelor thesis writing and defending. With regard to potential future participation of students in a conference, he/she understands various forms of scientific conference presentations, i.e. lectures and posters. Due to essential character of science popularization, student is able to discuss single forms of science popularization, such as press and television releases.

Předmět je zaměřen na seznámení studentů se základními formami vědecké komunikace a zákonitostmi s nimi spojenými. Studenti získají ucelený a základní přehled o publikační praxi, práci s literárními zdroji, citační praxi, recenzním řízení, ale také prezentaci na vědecké konferenci či komunikaci v popularizační rovině a mnoha dalších aspektech, nezbytných pro korektní komunikaci ve vědecké komunitě.

1. Introduction to scientific communication – what, why and how to publish?
2. Literature sources – library services, electronic information sources.
3. Publishing – types of articles and their structure.
4. Publishing – sources, where to search for an articles and how to use references correctly.
5. Publishing – how to write a literature review.
6. Publishing – preparation of a research paper.
7. Publishing – review of an article, communication with editor.
8. Graduate thesis – how to write a bachelor thesis.
9. Defence of the thesis – reviews of the thesis, how to defence the thesis.
10. Scientific correspondence – email correspondence, cover letter, letter of reference, etc.
11. Protection of intellectual property – patens, utility models, etc.
12. Presentations – structure of scientific and popularizing presentations, poster presentation, how to make a good presentation.
13. Scientific conference – poster session, chairing a session, conference lecture, panel discussion.
14. Science popularization – press, radio and TV releases.
