- to apply the basic thermodynamic and kinetic relationships for selected
technological processes
- to characterize the basic properties of molten metals and slags

FULL-TIME STUDY
List of conditions for obtaining of credit:
- required attendance at the exercises
- two written tests
- passing the required number of laboratory exercises, elaboration and defense
of laboratory protocols.

The examination consists of two parts - written and oral examination.

Subject syllabus:
1. Physical chemistry, its significance in technological processes.
Chemical thermodynamics - heat capacities, definition, classification.
2. The First law of thermodynamics, analysis, application.
3. Enthalpy, heating and coolling of substances, reaction enthalpy.
4. The Second law of thermodynamics – some application for chemical and
physical equilibriums.
5. Equilibrium constants and different forms of expression for homogeneous
and heterogeneous reactions
6. Phase equilibrium. Gibbs phase rule. Phase equilibria in one-component
two-phase systems.
7. Liquid solutions, properties, description of solutions, thermodynamic
models of solutions.
8. Chemical kinetics – basic terms (rate of chemical reaction,
molecularity, order of reaction, reaction mechanism).
9. Kinetics of homogeneous simple reactions.
10. Kinetics of heterogeneous chemical reactions, elementary steps in
heterogeneous reactions, diffusion, adsorption. Application in
technological processes.
11. Liquid metals and liquid metal oxide systems, structure,
physicochemical properties (viscosity, surface tension, adsorption).
12. Physical and metallurgical aspects of gases in molten metal, the
Sievert's law.
