The aim of the course is to expand students' knowledge of inorganic, organic, physical chemistry and biochemistry. Students will gain basic ideas about the chemical composition of substances in living organisms, their structure and metabolism.

Summary
The course expands students' knowledge of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, as well as biochemistry. The acquired knowledge forms a necessary basis for subsequent theoretical and practical study of nanotechnologies and bionanotechnologies.

Subject syllabus:
Lectures:
1. Structures of inorganic compounds, the relationship between the structure and properties of substances.
2. Introduction to the chemistry of nanomaterials and nanostructured materials, the issue of synthesis of nanaostructures from gaseous and liquid media.
3. Synthesis of molecules, nucleation, thermodynamics and kinetics of crystallization, mechanism of crystal growth.
4. Influencing the solubility of a solid in a liquid medium, practical examples.
5. Relationship between structure, properties, reactivity and biological efficiency of organic molecules.
6. Heterocyclic compounds - introduction, nomenclature, classification and properties.
7. Heterocyclic compounds - reactivity and important representatives.
8. Amino acids - structure, classification, properties and meaning.
9. Peptides and proteins - structure, classification, properties and significance.
10. Carbohydrates - structure, classification, properties and meaning.
11. Enzymes - structure, classification, properties and significance.
12. Nucleic acids - composition, types of nucleic acids and their biological significance.
13. Lipids - classification, structure, properties and significance.
14. Alkaloids - classification, structure, properties and meaning.
Exercises:

1. Computational exercise - solubility of substances. Laboratory work safety.
2. Monitoring the effect of pH on the particle size of iron oxides.
3. Preparation of metal oxides by hydrolysis.
4. Chemical reactions of carbohydrates and proteins.
5. Chemical reactions of enzymes.
6. Obtaining essential oils.
7. Determination of alkaloids and tannins.
