Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
- student will know the properties of water and their practical application, the chemical composition of water, water types
- student will know the processes of primary and secondary water pollution
- student will know the disposition and properties of pollutants
- student will know the types of wastewater with a focus on municipal and industrial wastewater
- student will knowthe physical, chemical and biological methods of wastewater treatment and their applications
- student will know the basic principles of water protection and water protection legislative framework in the Czech Republic and the EU
- student will know qualitative and quantitative expression of water composition
- student will know evaluate indicators of measuring the quality of surface waters and their classification
- student will know to assess the impact of wastewater mixing with water in a receiving water quality, application Streeter-Phelps equation
- student will know a liquid sampling and determination of basic indicators of surface water quality

Summary
Within the subject, the properties of media that influence the spread of pollutants in water and also the methods of purification of different types of waste water are studied.

Subject syllabus:
1. Water as a chemical compound. Physical and physico-chemical properties. Organoleptic and sensory properties of water.
2. Chemical composition of water. Nature and properties of pollutants. Inorganic substances in water. Organic substances in waters. Pollution indicators.
3. Types of water. Atmospheric, subsurface, surface water.
4. Primary and secondary water pollution.
5. Eutrophication.
6. Self-cleaning skills.
7. Water protection principles. Legislation in water management. Permissible degree of contaminaton.
8. Types of wastewater. Sewage, comunal and industrial wastewater. Types of industrial wastewater.
9. Wastewater treatment.
10. Physical, physico-chemical and chemical methods of wastewater treatment.
11. Biological methods. Aerobic and anaerobic biological methods. Activation.
12. Technology of the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
13. Natural ways of cleaning.
