Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student will be able: to explain metallurgical processes during melting of nonferrous metals; to describe manufacture of castings from cast nonferrous metals; to know material and foundry properties of nonferrous metals; to apply influencing of primary crystallization of alloys.

Summary

The course is aimed at deepening knowledge on alloys of nonferrous metals. It deals with the classification properties of metallic alloys and their analysis using different methodologies. The intention is to show the wider context of the production technology of metal alloys and their useful properties.

Subject syllabus:

Partition classification of non-ferrous alloys. Casting of non-ferrous metals. Melting non-ferrous metals, smelting units, physico-chemical processes for the preparation of alloys. Gasses in non-ferrous metal alloys, methods of degassing melts. Solidification and cooling of metals and alloys, influence of primary crystallization. Grain refinement and modifications. Metallurgy and technologies based on copper alloys, aluminum and magnesium zinc alloy, nickel, titanium, tin, lead for foundry use.
