- Student will be able to explain the nature of protection of metals against corrosion. - Student will be able to characterize the microstructure and properties of metallic coatings - Student will understand the final adjustments of rolled products and forgings.

Summary

The subject deals with the surface treatment of formed products. Provides an overview of the theory and application technology of metallic and non-metallic coatings and layers.

Subject syllabus:

1. Possibility of descaling before cold forming 2. Heat treatment of steels - principles and division of annealing, tempering, patenting 3. Internal stresses in forming products - straightening 4. Corrosion of metallic materials - characteristics, description and schemes of individual types of corrosion 5. Protection of metal surfaces against corrosion - basic division and preparation of surfaces before coating 6. Theory and technology of hot-dip and electrolytic galvanizing 7. Copper plating and aluminum plating 8. Tinning and chrome plating 9. Non-metallic coatings and metal surface treatment to increase wear resistance 10. Material testing - overview of special tests of mechanical properties and quality of the coating layer.
