Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Student will be able: - to compare the impact of individual accompanying elements on the structure and properties of steels and cast irons; - to understand the most important ways of steel and cast iron classification as well as their designation system; - to characterize the main groups of wrought steels and steel castings, including stainless steels, heat-resistant and refractory steels, CF steels, etc., to compare their structure and properties, advantages, drawbacks and main areas of application; - to compare the main types of cast irons, their structure, properties and also the main areas of use.

Summary

The goal is to acquaint students in a simple form with the influence of the most important elements, heat / thermochemical treatment and metallurgical technologies (casting, forming) on the structural characteristics and properties (mechanical, physical and chemical) of the most important types of steels and cast irons.
