Obtaining view of stages of historical evolution of the world and national community, understanding of mutual incidence and influence on world and national events in the process of undergoing evolution of human society.

Summary

In the course, historical approach is applied as an essential process in getting to know evolutionary processes in the society, at the same time interdisciplinary links are respected mainly in the areas of anthropology, historical demography, psychology and sociology. Emphasis is put on placing national history in European context and on explanation of relations of history of European countries with extraeuropean history

Subject syllabus:

1.Introduction to the course, recommended literature, problem of interpretation of history 2.History of the Czech statehood until the creation if Czechoslovakia 3.Development of the First republic in the context of the European history 4.National aspects in history and their current consequences 5.Violence as an instrument of changes in power relations, authoritarian and totalitarian systems 6.Causes of the World War II, pacifism, politics of appeasement, USSR-Germany treaty 7.World War II, invasion of Poland, battle over England, the Great Patriotic War 8.The U.S. in the period of the World War II, cooperation and conflicts of the Big Three 9.Collaboration, politics of ‘lesser of two evils’, resistance action in the history of the 20th Century 10.Issues of post-war development and the world context 11.Political tribunals in Czechoslovakia in the historical context of people-democratic countries 12.The establishment of elites and their development in the second half of the 20th century 13.1968, normalization 14.World history of the second half of the 20th Century
