Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
Student demonstrates basic knowledge in the area of the political aspects of the European Union in the context with national interests of Czech Republic and international relations. He can prove orientation in politics EU, based on the knowledge and ability of independent judgment and is able, on the basis of knowledge of this subject to understand the political situation in the field od European Union.

Summary
Course gives an elementary ovevwiew and information about political aspects of european
integration processes. History, institutions with their functions, democracy, main problems, future perspectives. Czech national interests and the role Czech Republic in EU.

Subject syllabus:
1. Theory of Politics. Theory of democracy and ideology. Human rights. Theory of regionalism.
2. History of XXth century with regard to european integration processes.
3. Important integration organizations in Europe. EU, CE, NATO - aims and methods.
4. Decision- making processes in EU, role of institutions, role of member states.
5.Current status of the integration process in the economic and political spheres. Some of political aspects of the EU development.
6.Central European region and the EU. Visegrad Group.
7. National interests of the Czech Republic and their implementation
8. Significance of regionalism for current International Relations. EU and the world. The preferred regions.
9.Euroscepticism and eurooptimism. EU development scenarios.
