Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
1. To acquaint students with the historical development of sports in Europe and especially in our country
2. To understand the origin of the modern Olympic movement with special emphasis on the historical continuity and Pierre de Coubertine.
3. To learn how to interpret the basic tendencies of the Olympism throughout its development.
4. To point out the modern history of the most widespread sports.

Subject syllabus:
Subject “Modern history of sport” connects the subject “History of physical culture”. It tries to describe the history of modern sport chronologically from the creation of this social phenomenon up to now. The top sport events above all the summer and winter Olympic games and the most widespread sport branches are accented.
1. Definition of basic terms (history, sport), creation of modern sport, English sport and games system

3. Jiří Stanislav Guth-Jarkovský, Josef Rössler-Ořovský and Miroslav Tyrš and their contribution to the sport development in Czech lands
