Summary
General pedagogy is a basic pedagogic discipline and its objective should focus on the systems of edification and education. It is the objective of this course to provide students with sufficient and decent overview of pedagogy-related scientific disciplines, their terminology, prognoses, development and scientific findings. We expect that this course should be subsequently linked to other disciplines focused on pedagogy, psychology, philosophy, or other branches. We accentuate dynamically developing school reforms but especially real demands of the daily practice both in terms of pupils/students and educators.

Subject syllabus:
1. Pedagogy as a branch of science, structure of pedagogy, pedagogy and its relationship to other branches of science. History and the present.
2. Pedagogic practice, structure of educational system, basic terminology in pedagogy.
3. Familiarization with basic educational documentation. The ongoing changes to the educational system.
4. Education, goals, ambitions, functions, tools, methods and forms of education, schooling, learning, education. Education as a method of a change of current social values.
5. Teacher’s (educator’s) personality– competences (general and key ones), knowledge, abilities and skills required by practice, as declared by the Catalog of works, Classification of occupations according to CSO, regulation number 317/2005, or 412/2006, respectively, law number 561, 563/2004 etc.
6. Profession and professional standard, profile of a graduate in relation to the requirements of the practice.
7. Pupil’s personality, intelligence differences, inequalities in the process of education, handicapped pupil, positive discrimination, Bloom’s theory of school learning.
8. Education environment – family, school, institutional education as a primary education environment.
9. Pedagogical diagnostics, methods and approaches of diagnostics.
