Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

To list the overview of the basic methods of surface treatment materials. Explain the principles of individual methods and their application in terms of the appropriateness of procedures for the materials. Propose optimal procedures for surface treatment in order to increase the resistance of the analyzed material.

Summary

In this course, students are introduced to the division surface finishing and material surface properties. These are pretreatments of material surfaces, electrochemical treatments, vacuum methods, thermal spraying, glass ceramic coatings and organic coatings, coating technology. Quality evaluation of coatings (mechanical tests: microhardness and nanohardness, roughness, fracture toughness, resistance to mechanical impact). Students will be acquainted with experimental methods of study of surface layers of materials: X-ray and electron microscopy and diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy.
