Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of the course is to deepen and consolidate knowledge so that it can be effectively used not only during doctoral studies but especially in practice. Emphasis is primarily placed on understanding the basic laws and connections between the lectured topic and practical applications. For the study, the selection of topics will be adapted to the focus of the PhD student's dissertation.

Subject syllabus:
The course focuses on the applications of thermodynamics, phase and chemical equilibria, and reaction kinetics in chemical and environmental technologies. In this context, the following topics are covered:
Thermodynamics - real gases, heat capacities, reaction heats and their temperature dependencies, thermodynamic state functions, enthalpy balances, thermochemistry, irreversible processes, thermodynamic equilibria, applications, thermodynamics of mixtures.
Phase Equilibria - single-component systems, multicomponent systems, intensive equilibrium criteria in condensed systems, liquid-vapor systems, solid-vapor systems, partial molar quantities, chemical potential, solubility of gases in liquids.
Chemical Equilibria - material balances, equilibrium conditions, equilibrium constants, equilibrium compositions, criteria of thermodynamic equilibria, equilibria of chemical reactions and physical processes and the factors that affect them, reactions in dilute solutions, electrolyte dissociation, solubility product.
Electrochemistry - electrolysis, electrodes, galvanic cells, chemical and concentration cells, applications of measuring equilibrium voltages, kinetics of electrode processes.
Chemical Kinetics - reaction rates and methods for their experimental measurement for homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reactions, catalysis, simultaneous reactions, mechanisms of chemical reactions.
