Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences
The aim of the subject is to give overview about the structure and characterization carbonaceous materials. Students will be introduced to new technologies of conventional and modern carbon materials. The practical knowledge on characterization of carbonaceous materials will be given.

Subject syllabus:
The course covers the following topic:
1 Carbon and carbonaceous materials: basic properties and forms. 2 The structure of graphite polytypes and structural failure. 3 Intercalated supramolecular structure based on graphite. 4 The structure of diamond: Polytypes, disorders, diamond nanocrystals. Synthesis of diamond recovery. 5 Evaluation of structural ordering: Definitions of types, the crystallite sizes Lc and La. 6 Fullerenes: fullerides, fullerites, their formation and nanostructure: Fulleren crystals and soot. 7 Carbon fiber: production and structure of the fibers (PAN, pitch) nanofibers. 8 Nanotubular Carbon: Forms, synthesis and structure of the MWNT / SWNT, preparation techniques. Intecalation, performance, nano-objects of the nanotubes. 9 Pyrolytic carbon, active carbon, soot. 10 Composites: Polymeric metal and carbon composites and carbon-carbon composites. Thermosets and thermoplastics for the matrix.
