The aim of the course is to broaden the knowledge in the field of general, physical and organic chemistry, including biochemistry forming the basis for the subsequent study of nanotechnologies, bionanotechnology and preparation of nanomaterials.

The aim of the subject is to broaden the knowledge in the field of general, physical and organic chemistry, including biochemistry forming the basis for subsequent study of nanotechnologies, bionanotechnology and preparation of nanomaterials. It is supposed to achieve some knowledge and orientation in the chemical sciences and complements the study of information necessary for further theoretical and practical study.

Subject syllabus:
1. Introduction to chemistry of nanomaterials and nanostructured materials
2. Crystalography, structure, symmetry, crystallographic systems
3. Molecular crystals, types of bonds, crystalline structures of organic molecules
4. Crystallization, nucleation, crystallization thermodynamics, crystal growth mechanism, kinetics.
5. Polymorphism, polymorphs, properties of polymorphs
6. Phase interfaces, intermolecular interactions, phase interface properties
7. Surfactants
8. Functionalization of nanoparticles, covalent and non-covalent modifications, typical reactions
9. Heterocyclic Structures - Introduction, nomenclature, properties and reactions
10. Heterocyclic compounds, main representatives
11. Basics of biochemical compounds - carbohydrates
12. Basics of biochemical compounds - proteins and enzymes
13. Basics of biochemical compounds - lipids
14. Basics of biochemical compounds - nucleic acids
