Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The primary aim of this course is to introduce last trends in the field of molecular biology in their connection with nanotechnology, particularly with its application potential in nanobiotechnology and nanomedicine. Obtaining the general knowledge about biomolecules and their functions in living organism together with possible utilization in nanotechnology and nanomedicine will be emphasized. Students should be introduced to interdisciplinary fields and should recognize their importance and specifics – particularly in orientation in areas dealing with non-engineering and life-sciences such as molecular biology and biochemistry. This course in its some aspects is supplemental to „Biogenic materials and structures in nanotechnology“.

Summary

Nanotechnologies have become widely used in environmental engineering, medicine and the other fields dealing with life science. Molecular biology and genetic techniques can be utilized for study of mechanisms which are commonly used by living organisms. Cell performance and functions allow us to understand the properties of nanosized matter and also the connection with the artificial nanotechnology. Major molecular biology methods and approaches will be discussed with regard to experimental design and data analysis and with special interest for the cell behavior, different biomolecules as nanomotores (enzymes, proteins, amino acids, etc.) and applications in nanotechnology (bionanotechnology, nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine).
