Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

Students will be introduced to toxicology of nanomaterials including significant properties of various types of nanomaterials of synthetic and natural origin and nanomaterials originating unintentionally as by-products of anthropogenic activities and sources emitting nanomaterials to single part of the environment. Students will be able to define potential interactions of nanomaterials with living systems on molecular, cellular and organ levels and describe toxic character of selected nanomaterials including basic methods of toxicity testing.

Subject syllabus:

- Emission sources of nanomaterials - Properties of nanomaterials affecting their toxicity - Interaction of nanomaterials with living organisms, exposure routes, mechanisms of toxic action, biotransformation, excretion and deposition, - Toxic effects and toxicity bioassays on molecular, cellular and organ levels.
