Subject aims expressed by acquired skills and competences

The course will provide students with a systematic overview of methods used for the preparation of inorganic materials ranging from historical and traditional methods of particle and fiber preparation to current approaches to preparation, where nanotechnology is an important area. In the next part of the course the student will be acquainted with the methods and conditions of incorporation of nanofillers into the matrix for obtaining the nanocomposite.

Summary

Nanocomposites represent a large area in science and in several industries. In the last few years, there has been great interest in adapting the structure and composition of materials to nanometer scale sizes. Therefore, a systematic review of the preparation, properties and applications of various nanocomposites is extremely important. Preparation techniques include sol gel process, in-situ polymerization, solution mixing process, melt mixing process, and in-situ intercalative polymerization. Properties of nanocomposites such as mechanical, optical, rheological, flame retardant and dielectric behavior, antimicrobial, friction and others are discussed.
